Even though the studio behind the popular story-based adventure game, Everybody’s Gone to the Rapture, went dark in 2017 after the release of their VR title, Let Us Melt, the lead designer has gone on to create another narrative-driven game. From Andrew Crawshaw’s studio, Thunkd comes “first-person, romantic, metal-detecting game” called The Magnificent Trufflepigs. This will be the first game to come out of the aforementioned studio. Also, this will be the second title from the publisher, AMC Games, which is the video game studio division of AMC Networks, after their first game Airplane Mode released in October of 2020.
In The Magnificent Trufflepigs, players will play as the protagonist Adam as he returns to his childhood home and reunites with Beth as she seeks to find her sense of adventure and treasure along the way. Throughout the narrative, players will delve deeper into Beth’s backstory and reason for wanting to find this “local treasure.” Adam will be voiced by Arthur Darvill, from Doctor Who and Legends of Tomorrow, and Beth by Luci Fish, from Safe House and Another Eden.
The main gameplay revolves around metal detecting and relationship building. Players will wander around an English farm and use a metal detector to find and dig up treasure. During these excavations, Beth will be a constant presence with players always able to reach her by walkie-talkie and instant messenger. As the journey continues, players will have a chance to unravel the mystery surrounding Beth’s motivations and find the truth.
While there is not an exact release date yet, The Magnificent Trufflepigs should come out sometime in early Summer 2021 for both PC and Nintendo Switch. Right now, anyone interested can Wishlist the title on Steam.
