Developer Seasun Games have recently announced that their Free-to-play Mech Action game Mecha BREAK will be launching this spring for the Xbox Series X|S and PC. Gematsu reports that a PlayStation 5 version will be released, though a set date has not been announced; Sign ups for a closed beta test have been announced this week and will continue until January 14.
The setting of Mecha BREAK is a ruined Earth, due to geological disasters caused by volcanic and hazardous mineral known as “Corite.” As a member of a faction you will pilot your mech and battle over this resource.
In an Interview on AUTOMATON Mecha BREAK’s producer Kris Kwok shares some of the game’s major influences “Gundam, specifically my favorite seasons UC, Z and ZZ. I am confident in my knowledge of Gundam, if I do say so myself. Ever since I was a child, I have continued to keep up with anime and plastic model kits. As for games, I’d first like to mention the Super Robot Wars series. I have played almost all of the titles right up to the latest release. Next is the Armored Core series. This series was my introduction to PvE (Player vs Environment) mech battle games, and I have dreamt of making a mech game ever since I played it. Many of our team have similar experiences like this, and they are very passionate about the fine details, movements and designs of mechs.”
Three gameplay modes can be found in Mecha BREAK, including the player-versus-player-versus-environment mode; raid style bosses will be included. A shooting range is being added following the game’s release.
With Mecha BREAK drawing inspiration from some of the genre’s greatest contemporaries it may well succeed in providing an exciting alternative to the influx of multiplayer shooters, and action games.
