Today, in celebration of Grimace’s birthday, McDonald’s has partnered with developer Krool Toys for a game made for Game Boy Color. The game, aptly titled Grimace’s Birthday is just one of the ways McDonald’s decided to celebrate the occasion. There is also a special Grimace Birthday Meal, and merchandise to purchase while supplies last.
Grimace’s Birthday follows Grimace as he is throwing a birthday party at a McDonald’s restaurant, but none of his McDonald’s friends have shown up. So, with 30 minutes to midnight, he has to round them up before the day comes to an end. The game is a side-scrolling platformer that has Grimace on the hunt to collect 40 milkshakes through four levels of the game before time runs out. The first two levels has Grimace utilizing a skateboard while the other two are on foot.
The Game Boy Color is not the only way you can play Grimace’s Birthday. You can also play it on your browser or phone. Players can download the ROM file here if you still have a Game Boy Color lying around.
The Grimace Birthday Meal features a limited-edition purple shake inspired by Grimace’s iconic color and sweetness. It comes with a choice of either a Big Mac or a 10-piece Chicken Mcnuggets, and World Famous Fries.
The Grimace-inspired merch spans from t-shirts to socks. You can purchase the merchandise on Golden Arches Unlimited while supplies last.
