Developed and published by Armchair History Interactive, Master of Command is now available to play on Steam. The game will cover the battles of the Seven Years’ War through the lens of a real-time strategy game. The RTS genre is no stranger to historical warfare and settings, allowing players to place themselves in the shoes of overhead commanding officers and check on smaller aspects of the battle as they occur. The developers are experienced in making war games as well, with their previous work on Steam, Fire and Manuever, containing multiple expansions for historical conflicts.
Master of Command places players in control of a large army, with all of the many considerations that come with that position. On the Steam store page, details can be found about the many ways in which the gameplay is constructed to simulate the real war. Players will move through a campaign from battle to battle. While engaged in conflict, they will also be responsible for managing army supplies and equipment, with consequences for losing soldiers to starvation or weariness.
One of the main attractions of Master of Command is the real-time map, with fog of war and a constantly moving enemy. In order to effectively combat this threat, players will be able to customize their units with historically accurate equipment. As access to supplies change, players may be forced to experiment with different combinations for each regiment made up of 150 different soldiers, allowing for a personalized experience. The game also offers a sense of discovery by giving players the chance to visit towns to recruit more troops or restock resources. Interactions with towns may have lasting consequences for the entire campaign.
True to war itself, Master of Command is much more than a collection of battles. Gamers who are looking for a variable experience will have a lot to enjoy with the campaign. The game released today, October 27th, to Steam on sale.
