Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics Features DRM

The entire fighting game community is extremely excited for the Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics that released yesterday, the 90s nostalgia trip celebrating the history of the crossovers between the two titular companies which feature X-Men Children of the Atom, Marvel Super Heroes, X-Men vs. Street Fighter, Marvel Super Heroes vs. Street Fighter, Marvel vs. Capcom Clash of Super Heroes, Marvel vs. Capcom 2, and The Punisher. Truly, this is a collection to be celebrated, but it’s only fair to point out that this collection features DRM, specifically The Enigma Protector, which Capcom have worked with before.

With some of the movers and shakers in the industry moving away from DRM it is a bit disheartening to see Capcom featuring it in such a monumental release like this, the Fighting Collection is not only a celebration of Capcom’s peak of fighting games from the 90s, many are also taking it as a possible sign of a future Marvel vs. Capcom game, and to those players it’s doubtful that the DRM will deter them from purchasing this collection, though no doubt they’ll shake their heads at its inclusion.

For the most part, many people have been looking forward to this release and would have likely purchased this collection regardless, which is more than fair as it’s definitely a fantastic bundle, but it’s only fair to inform everyone that this collection is packed with more than just games. Hopefully for that future Marvel vs. Capcom title, if it ever comes to exist, DRM will be a thing of the past by the time of its release. Until then, feel free to play and enjoy Marvel vs. Capcom Fighting Collection: Arcade Classics, just keep an eye on that pesky 3rd party software it installs into your computer as well.

I love video games and video game culture, as far back as I can remember I've not only played them, I've actively participated in their communities. I hope my history in this hobby and my enthusiasm for writing helps me convey news to you accurately and succinctly.
