Trading card games are well-known for keeping the game fresh through the constant introduction of new cards. While this trend can make some releases feel commonplace, the practice also leaves the door open for more sweeping changes to come when brand new types of cards are released. This is the case with the newly revealed Magic: The Gathering set, Reality Fracture, which introduces new echoed pair cards representing a character’s different paths and the new shattered foil rarity. Headed by multiverse warrior Jace Beleren on a quest to create a better multiverse, Reality Fracture leans into the story of his battle with his formal allies through cards such as Jace himself, Loyal Tutor, and Clash of the Elements.
Bloodline Recollector also receives a new version with art by Mark Poole, the artist for Ancestral Recall. The new card will be a double rainbow foil with 500 serialized version per language.
One of the main new features of Reality Fracture is the new Shattered Mirror cards, with artwork that breaks across the card into crystal fragments. In keeping with the multiverse theme of the set, the artwork on these cards will reflect different paths for some of the game’s most iconic cards. One of these cards is Hexhaven Invigorator, which appears more aggressive and monstrous in its new rarity.
The other new kind of card featured in Reality Fracture are the Echoed Pairs, cards that come in groups of two, with each half representing a different version of events. One of the cards will always represent how the creature is represented in the main Magic Multiverse while the other will represent the creature in Jace’s Echoverse, often with different attributes, stats, or abilities.
The story of Magic: The Gathering has spanned multiple generations, with the premise now reaching entirely new multiverses in scope. The story will conclude tomorrow, and the main set will be available October 2nd.
