A new creature collector game is coming to Switch and PC in just a few months, boasting a blended 2D and 3D art style and expanded customization. The genre is among the most accessible for many players, oftentimes including both cute companions and fearsome fighters to add to a team. Developed by Beehive Studios and published by Team17, LumenTale: Memories of Trey has received a new trailer announcing its impending release date and showing off some of the early options available for the starters.
The trailer begins by showing off the many environments that will be part of the finished game. The camera pans from artistic cities to wild fields, a pirate ship, and a snowy tundra. Finally, the start of a battle gives viewers their first look at the Animon, the creatures that players will fight with in combat. They travel behind players in the overworld, while others can be seen wandering in the world. The trailer also shows off some of the distinct features of LumenTale: Memories of Trey, such as the ability to fight with each Animon surrounding the player and offering each of the five starting Animon their choice between two evolution paths.
Some of the story elements hinted at in the trailer are expanded on in the Steam page. Players join Trey on a journey to recover his forgotten memories. His mission takes place amidst a raging civil war between northern Talea, Logos, and southern Talea, Mythos. The Lumen are capable of catching and using Animon to protect both them and people from the conflict using the Holoken. A series of battles with caught Animon will eventually lead Trey to the answers he seeks.
Creature capture games have a very positive reputation among fans, making it difficult for new games to live up to expectations. The new trailer for LumenTale: Memories of Trey has been well-received however, leaving many to wait for the game’s release on May 26th.
