Made by the same studio that created Please, Don’t Touch Anything¸ Four Quarters is back with a new roguelike game named Loop Hero. Aesthetically, the pixelated art style creates gorgeous character portraits, haunting environments, and horrific monsters. For gamers who enjoy slow progression and investing lots of time in games, Loop Hero might be a great fit.
Loop Hero is not the typical roguelike. Instead, it hosts a combination of deckbuilding and puzzle elements along with the normal roguelike mechanics. The game gets its name from the time loop the hero is stuck inside. The hero spawns on a floating pathway in the middle of the void and players are able to place a variety of items to challenge said hero; these include a variety of enemies, buildings, and terrain. When the hero encounters these monsters, they will automatically fight it and victory will be determined by RPG stats. As the hero completes these loops, they will pick up new items to strengthen the hero. Throughout the journey, players can unlock new classes, cards, and guardians. However, as the game unfolds the time loop will become more and more difficult. As players build up their loops to a certain level, they will have to defeat bosses to advance the storyline. The ultimate goal of Loop Hero is to eventually be able to break the time loop and save the world.
Loop Hero will be fully released on Steam on March 4 for $14.99, but until then there is a demo currently available to download. In addition, if Loop Hero seems like your type of game, you can pre-order on Steam right now for a 15% off discount.
