Today, Little Rocket Lab, an RPG with elements of town-building and adventure, became playable. It was developed by Teenage Astronauts and published by No More Robots, marking the team’s first game to be released. The game is built on the premise of an engineer returning to her old town to improve the lives of those who live there, all while building to her ultimate goal of creating a rocket for the town.
In Little Rocket Lab, players will control Morgan, who returns to her hometown of St. Ambroise to find it in need of help, specifically the kind that she can grant as an engineer. This town is the main setting, with each resident becoming characters that players will have the opportunity to get to know over the course of the game. These townsfolk also provide a gateway into the Little Rocket Lab‘s main feature, constructing various contraptions to help people. As the town’s problems are solved, players will finally have the chance to fulfill the wish of Morgan’s mother and create a rocket.
The game’s art is simple, with characters being portrayed by small sprites with large eyes. The camera viewpoint and layout facilitate the building that makes up most of the gameplay. In order to progress Morgan’s mission of building the town back up, she will need to collect resources by mining and adventuring outside the town. Once players have those materials, they will be able to put them to use while thinking like an engineer. According to the Steam store page, Morgan will be able to build contraptions that rely on electricity and waterpower. The contraptions themselves could take the shape of construction tools, factories, or even robots.
Little Rocket Lab offers an adventure set on a smaller scale than most RPGs, with tools that are also unfamiliar to the genre. It could be a perfect experience for someone who has always dreamed of building their way to the stars. The game is available now on Steam and Xbox.
