As they tend to do before the release of every episodic chapter for Life is Strange 2, the developers of the narrative-based, adventure title have released an update for the upcoming Episode 3. Episode 2 released about two months ago, so by now fans of the acclaimed series are most likely wondering when the next chapter will drop. While it is unfortunate that Dontnod Entertainment has yet to disclose a release date despite this update, gamers should be reassured that progress on the next piece is coming along fine.
According to the team, internal and external playtesting were completed this past week, indicating a light at the end of the tunnel, as the feedback obtained from these integral tests will allow them to “push through the final stages of development.” As the series is very story and dialogue-heavy, it’s also noteworthy that the last of the Voice Over session has also been completed. The developers expressed that this has to be the last step of the process, since playtest feedback will let them know if certain dialogue lines need to be added or changed to better accommodate game design and player accessibility.
At this point in time, Episode 4 Key Art is already being started, while Lead Artist Edouard Caplain has begun work on the Key Art for Episode 3. The developers noted that key art is crucial to “setting the tone of an episode”, along with shouldering the marketing responsibility of representing the chapter in all storefronts, digital or physical.
Key Art progression runs parallel with the story’s advancements. The entire Life is Strange 2 story was entirely written before work on individual chapters began, but the team will still make the necessary creative adjustments if need be. Similarly, by making Key Art production the last piece of the release puzzle, it allows the artist to fine-tune the piece to “convey the mood of an episode and its characters” after seeing the finished product.
The Life is Strange team leaves off with words of gratitude for its supporters, and assures its fans that the episode is “coming along nicely.” There is no release date as of yet for Episode 3, but the first two are now playable on PC, Xbox One, and PS4.
