LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, A New Era in a Brick-Built Gotham Coming May 2026

At The Game Awards 2025, TT Games and Warner Bros. Games dropped a brand-new gameplay trailer for LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight, giving fans their first expansive look at the gameplay mechanics, character roster, and the adventurous tone of the upcoming title. This fresh preview has ignited excitement across the gaming community, positioning the game as one of the most anticipated action-adventures for 2026.

The trailer, dubbed the “Heroes & Villains” doesn’t just tease visuals; it delivers concrete gameplay moments showing LEGO Batman and the Bat-Family in action. Players see fluid combat sequences as Batman takes on Joker’s goons in Gotham’s chaotic streets, showcasing a revised combat system that feels faster and more dynamic than previous LEGO titles.

Notably, the footage highlights the unique abilities and gadgets of multiple playable characters. Batgirl’s “hackarang can disable electronics, Robin performs nimble acrobatics, and Nightwing brings his iconic staff into the fight. Catwoman dazzles with agile melee attacks and the assistance of her feline companions. Each character brings distinct flair to both combat and exploration.

The trailer also offers a first look at Gotham City as a living, open-world LEGO playground. Players can grapple, glide, or drive through the city’s streets and rooftops, taking advantage of an array of vehicles. Multiple Batmobiles including ones inspired by the Batman (1989), The Dark Knight (2008), and The Batman (2022) films make their LEGO-fied debut.

The Batcave makes an appearance too, with the trailer giving fans a glimpse at its iconic giant penny and Batman’s growing collection of over 100 un-lockable suits  from comic classics to film and animated variants.

In addition to Batman, the trailer showcases a rich cast of allies and adversaries. Commissioner Gordon, Robin, Nightwing, Batgirl, and Catwoman are confirmed as core companions in the story, each with signature gadgets and combat roles shown briefly in the footage. Meanwhile, a lineup of fan-favorite villains including The Joker, Ra’s al Ghul, Two-Face, Poison Ivy, The Penguin, Mr. Freeze, and Bane.

Beyond combat and characters, the trailer emphasizes a tribute to Batman’s long legacy, blending moments and homages from across the character’s nearly century-long history in comics, movies, and television. It seems less about strict adaptation and more about celebrating the world of Batman with the playful charm that LEGO games are known for. TT Games also appears to be leaning into more immersive gameplay elements, inviting players not just to punch bad guys, but to explore, collect, customize, and uncover secrets in a LEGO-crafted Gotham.

Accompanying the trailer was an official release date announcement: LEGO Batman: Legacy of the Dark Knight is scheduled to launch on May 29, 2026 for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PC (Steam & Epic), with a Nintendo Switch 2 version to follow.
