Video game producer and industry legend Shinji Mikami has had a career full of smash hits that have shaped the video game landscape as a whole. While most attach his name to Capcom’s magnum opus, 2005 smash hit Resident Evil 4, Mikami has been a titan of the business and has been involved in many of the greatest video games ever created, with credits on Devil May Cry, God Hand, Vanquish, Ace Attorney, Killer 7, Hi-Fi Rush, and of course the aforementioned Resident Evil series. With such a pedigree behind him, it’s no surprise that Mikami has seemingly gone on to create his own company, KAMUY, after leaving Tango Gameworks, the company he had a hand in founding.
As shown above, there hasn’t been an official announcement of Mikami’s departure from Tango Gameworks quite yet, but his bio on the website for the Shadows of the Damned remaster, Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered, states:
After leaving Tango Gameworks, he established KAMUY Inc.
You can see said biography on the Shadows of the Damned Hella Remastered website here.
This is obviously big news, Shinji Mikami as we have stated numerous times, is probably one of the most prolific video game names on the market. So, once again casting off on his own it seems that Mikami is not content to settle with one company for too long. Tango Gameworks have created such vibrant and innovative games such as The Evil Within series as well as Hi-Fi Rush, so while his loss may be tragic for them no doubt the team left has more than enough talent to continue to make incredible games for the market.
As for Mikami himself, we have no idea what KAMUY entails. We don’t know what kind of projects they’re going to take on, we don’t even know if they’ll make video games. As stated, Mikami has not officially announced his departure from Tango, but wherever he goes we know he is bound to make an impact.
