Nintendo fans have been waiting to see what the new Nintendo Switch would look like. We are getting closer and closer every day to the launch of the new system which recent reports have said will not launch before April 2025. Now, we may have gotten our potential first look at what the next Nintendo Switch console would look like thanks to leaked images that made their way online.
The images, which have not been verified as of yet, shared that the next Nintendo Switch will include 12GB of RAM(compared to 4GB of the original Switch), support for HDMI 2.1, and 256GB of internal storage (compared to 32GB). These match details were discovered during the alleged shipping leak earlier this year.
A source who hasn’t seen the final ‘Switch 2’ console but was briefed on Nintendo’s plans told VGC that the images, while unverified, match what Nintendo told partners what to expect from its design.
The images match earlier reports of the design of the new Nintendo console. As seen in the images, the Switch successor will include a larger 8-inch screen and a new magnetic attachment for the controllers. Spaeking of the controllers, there seem to have undergone some changes, with revised SL/SR buttons and front-facing player LEDs.
Sources suggested that the new Switch could launch with a LCD screen instead of OLED to bring down costs. There was also a claim by Chinese peripheral maker Mobapad that the handheld itself will support 1080p resolution but the new dock will support 4K resolution.
While it’s been revealed that the new system will launch sometime after April 2025, Senior Analyst at MST Financial David Gibson said that financial guidance from Nintendo assembler Hosiden can lead to an earlier launch.
“No-one seems to have noticed the Nintendo assembler- Hosiden is spending ¥2bn on production equipment and ¥1bn on automation in FY3/25 for its major customer in amusement (Nintendo),” he wrote. “I still expect Sept. news and March 2025 release for next device.”
