Layers of Fear 2 has been none the stranger for being written about. It has been covered since the first trailer which announced the project was being made, then the second trailer which revealed little more information about the game, and then being able to be hands on at PAX East with the demo and learning a lot more about the game. So it comes as no surprise that it would get covered again. And boy, developers Bloober Team have been busy.
When Layers of Fear 2 was announced, there wasn’t much to go off of, including a timeframe of when the game would come out. Most expected it to be out by 2020, but it wasn’t until PAX East that it was revealed that it would be out in time for 2019. Again, it was assumed that it would be well into 2019 that it would be released, and again, Bloober Team gave a bit of a shock when they released this tweet back at the beginning of April (only a few days after PAX):
It wasn’t much, but it gave fans a feel for how close in 2019 it might have actually been. And maybe not so far into as they thought. And before any breathing room was given, there was a sequence of two tweets that showed off a couple of set scene’s that might be relenvant to the plot of the story:
The first tweet just shows the chandelier of the ocean liner that the game takes place on, but if you look carefully there appears to be an unfinished word on the blackboard. CH_R_C_ER. No doubt the word ‘Character’, referencing the main protagonist who is an actor. Whether or not this is relevant to a puzzle that the player must solve is up for debate.
The second tweet shows off a flashing scene that is very familiar from the Layers of Fear 2 demo at PAX East. The scene has a line of apples around the room that the player must crush with a young woman screaming in the background. The scene would go between the unsettling dark room to the rather frightening blood covered room with the effigy hanging from the ceiling.
And before fans got too comfortable with their every other day spooky scene, Team Bloober released this:
A date. A date much sooner than most had anticipated. And a date that was very near. But it wasn’t all that they made sure was set. With the release date only a few weeks away, the official twitter let out one last hoorah before the final bell toll:
It’s up for pre-order. So now it’s just a matter of pre-ordering the game, and waiting until the final day cometh. Layers of Fear 2 will release on May 28, 2019 on PC, PS4, and Xbox One for $29.99 USD. Pre-order is currently only available for PC on Steam.
