Fortnite’s Volcano Erupts and Brings Questions for the Next Season

So… Fortnite Battle Royale has had a weird day. A really weird day. Over the past month, players have been unlocking a type of puzzle for the Season 8 Rune event. Eventually, their digging and seeking out any type of clues led to a giant door over Loot Lake. Today, at 3 pm EST, this gate opened. And it’s an odd sight to behold:

This gameplay video shows off what the gate opening looks like. A bright light, and players descending down into a sci-fi blank realm (very Tron-like, for a small comparison) or vault. In this vault there were six items locked up behind tall crystals. These items were all tools and features that Fortnite once had in it’s system; planes, the Infinity Blade, the tactical SMG, the grappler, bounce pads, and the drum gun. It began clear when players began to hit at one of these crystal chambers that it had a set amount of health. Soon enough, it was being destroyed.

After players destroyed the crystal, the drum gun was possibly released, and all the players ascended into the sky. And much further into the sky they went. For another strange event to be witnessed.

Back at the beginning of Season 8, a volcano was added in to the map. And now the answer was finally coming: destruction. The eruption at first just seemed to be a spectacle, but it was soon clear what was happening when the first molten rock flew out. The first one hit Polar Peak mountain, causing a large crack. Then moved to Retail Row. And then the biggest one breaks out into several pieces and completely destroys Tilted Towers, one of Fortnite’s biggest and best known locations. This however, is not only a huge thing that Epic can use to rebuild wherever the want, but this calamity was teased back in Season 3 with the comet.

However, while that attempt didn’t work out in the way players had thought it would, the volcanic eruption proves to be the victor. With the drumgun having finally returned into the game there’s still one question left: what will replace the now leveled Tilted Towers? Hopefully answers that will come in the next season.
