Last week, PlayStation revealed that the last State of Play of the year would be taking place today. It was comprised of over 20 minutes of new games, release dates, official announcements that were known ahead of time due to leaks and a tease of a trailer which will be revealed during The Game Awards this Thursday.
The State of Play started with a trailer for Untitled Goose Game which will be making its way to the PlayStation 4 very soon on December 17. Heading into 2020, Spellbreak is a new battle royale experience that looks like it’s taking cues from Avatar: The Last Airbender and The Legend of Korra in that players will fight with control of natural elements. A closed beta for the game is coming Spring 2020.
Next, Dreams from Media Molecule got an official release date of February 14, 2020. The game had been in early access since Spring prior to that ending this past week. Next up was Superliminal which is a physics-based puzzle-platformer that has perspective play an important role in solving its puzzles.
Paper Beast is a new PlayStation VR title where players can “explore a living and dynamic VR ecosystem.” Players can manipulate the animals that are inhabiting the ecosystem and play with terrain and fluids in order to “unravel the deepening mysteries of Paper Beast“. The game will be available in Q1 2020.
Following this, Kingdom Hearts III Re:Mind‘s trailer was shown off. Unfortunately, the trailer leaked a few days before the event. It is DLC for Kingdom Hearts III and will be available on January 23, 2020. Pre-orders are available now and the trailer highlighted two versions that are available to purchase. Kingdom Hearts III Re:Mind is $29.99 and it comes with the additional story, limitcut episode and 13 boss battles, secret episode and boss battle, data greeting feature, slideshow feature, premium menu, and diverse difficulty settings and gameplay challenges. Kingdom Hearts III Re:Mind + Concert Video (19 tracks) is $39.99 and it comes with the main story update, new abilities, two new keyblades plus new form changes added.
Predator: Hunting Grounds got a new trailer, and will be released on April 24, 2020. The release date trailer also gave a first look at three classes of Predator that players can choose from. Hunter is a versatile hunting style with balanced weapon choice, Berserker is more of a tank with savage power and extra health, and Scout will have increased speed and ultimate stamina. Next, a first look at gameplay was given on the next PlatinumGames and Square Enix collaboration title, Babylon’s Fall. The trailer showed off the heavy action based combat Platinum is known for, and more details will be revealed in Summer 2020.
The biggest announcement of the event was the official reveal of the remake of Resident Evil 3. The game seemed to be set up as a major surprise reveal, unfortunately, news of the remake started to surface recently and the box art leaked on the PlayStation Store. It was also announced that the game will be paired together with Resident Evil: Resistance, the new multiplayer title that was revealed in September. Resident Evil 3 remake will be released on April 3, 2020 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC.
The State of Play ended with a special message from Ken Kutaragi to celebrate the 25th anniversary of PlayStation. However, one last thing was shown with a tease for Ghost of Tsushima. It was then announced that a full trailer will be revealed on Thursday, December 12, at The Game Awards.
