Guerrilla has added a memorial to honor the recent passing of actor Lance Reddick in a recent update to the Burning Shores DLC of Horizon Forbidden West. The memorial honoring Reddick can be found at anytime on a small island within the Burning Shores map. There players will find a hologram placard of his name, with colorful flowers circled about the memorial. Reddick’s untimely passing earlier this year in March shocked and saddened fans who loved the many characters he played.
On Guerrilla’s official Twitter page, the devs provided a statement honoring Reddick.
“In honor of Lance Reddick, we created a memorial to commemorate the profound impact he had on us all. Thank you, Lance, for everything you brought to the role of Sylens: your gravitas, energy, wisdom and more. An incomparable talent and friend. We miss you terribly.”
Reddick played Sylens in both Horizon Zero Dawn and the sequel Forbidden West, a character intrigued in discovering the history of the machines that roamed the apocalyptic earth, and exploring more about the “Old Ones.” Sylens helped guide Aloy discover more that she herself was searching to uncover throughout the story of Horizon Zero Dawn. Reddick returned to play and voice Sylens in the sequel of Forbidden West. Sylens became an immediately memorable character in the world of Horizon Zero Dawn in part to Reddick’s immaculate performance.
Reddick also voiced Commander Zavala in Destiny 2 and played Charon in the John Wick franchise. It’s unclear whether Sylens will be recasted in future Horizon titles, along with Destiny and other media he appeared in.
