Koshmar: The Last Reverie’s Steam page reveals the game is a story about Violet, the daughter of an indifferent father, who terrifies everyone. A “sleeping plague” strikes, causing Violet to explore the unknown. Koshmar: The Last Reverie’s announcement trailer expands on this storyline, highlighting Violet’s struggle between “Waking Life” and nightmares.
The trailer starts with the back facing reveal of two golden girls, one with two long ponytails and the other without, as the narrator discusses how “Waking Life is a fragile balance.” The trailer continues revealing the girls to be a part of a gold and green music box, with a cranking key, and nobs. The narrator continues “The light burns, the darkness drowns. You keep to the narrow road between.” The full scope of the music box is unveiled showing the two golden girls, one arm linked together spinning, when the narrator states “But what if power.” Suddenly, the music box is knocked to the side by Violet who runs to the center of the trailer and clutches at her head before showcasing black and purple flashes of power.
The Trailer continues, showing Violet running between various cityscapes: from the inside of the city, to the outside, to abandoned buildings, and an amusement park. The trailer discloses some gameplay mechanics as violet slides up a pole, balances on high beams, explores buildings with a torchlight and flies down on a glider. Magical parts of the gameplay are then explored as Violet is seen casting a spell to hit a glowing point, and encountering a glowing purple portal. Violet appears back at the music box location, struggling against “power beyond your dreams and fears.” As she struggles, her heart glows purple and shadows gather around her arms, legs, clothes and face until her eyes turn purple and she is intertwined with the shadows, revealing a creature with a sharp smile, and glowing eyes inside.
After that, Violet is seen jumping onto floating steps in an assumedly other world. She’s floating in the air, sending explosions into walls, and running through vast hallways. The game shows some more of her magical skills by highlighting a “shadow presence” that can be equipped. A monster materializes who flings shadow creatures at Violet. The shadows stick to violet, clinging onto her arm and palm, causing her palm to shine with lightning and become power. Another Gameplay factor is revealed as Violet is shown fighting against various monsters, using hand and foot combat, magical missiles and magical weapons in different battles. The trailer ends with Violet battling against the shadows. This time, the shadows stick onto her, creating ropes which force her to lean back. Violet’s eyes go purple, they flash brightly, she opens her mouth and there’s an explosion. From the ashes, someone wearing a long dress made of shadows emerges. From the depth of this trailer, Koshmar: The Last Reverie seems to be mixing complex lore with action packed dynamics, keeping fans expectations high for the games release.
