Konami Reveals Full 50 Game Lineup and Release Date for the TurboGrafx-16 Mini

Back at E3, Konami announced they were entering the retro game console space by announcing the TurboGrafx-16 Mini. Now, the company has revealed more details regarding their upcoming mini console including the price point, $99.99 USD, the full game lineup, and, most importantly, a March 19, 2020 release date. In addition, the mini console will also be released as the PC Engine Mini in Japan and PC Engine Core Grafx Mini in Europe.

The TurboGrafx-16 is “well-known for introducing several historical firsts, including the first console with a CD-ROM add-on and the first console to offer multi-tap support for up to five players” as well as for being a collector’s item. This mini version of the classic 1987 16-bit console will include a robust catalogue of 50 games for players to experience. 24 of these games will be English versions of classic TurboGrafx-16 games which you can see below:

  • Bonk’s Revenge

The additional 26 games will be PC Engine, the Japanese version of the TurboGrafx-16, games that will be a playable in their original Japanese language and format. Those games include:

When the TurboGrafx-16 Mini launches next year, additional peripherals will be available for players to purchase as well. These will include a turbo controller which has an automatic shooting function. A Multi-Tap which allows for up to five player multiplayer on the console. Finally, there will be an AC adapter for additional wall charging capability.

Konami has also announced that the TurboGrafx-16 Mini will be sold exclusively through Amazon. However, the company gave no details as to why the decision was made. A pre-order period for the mini console will happen next week on July 15 during Amazon’s annual Prime Day promotion.
