Kojima Announces New Studio And Sony Partnership

It didn’t take long after his official departure from Konami for Hideo Kojima to start making his next move. In a video posted on the Playstation YouTube Channel, Kojima officially announces his new independent studio Kojima Productions as well as a partnership with Sony.

The announcement video shows President and Global CEO of Sony Computer Entertainment Inc, Andrew House, giving Kojima a warm introduction while highlighting his accomplishments to the Playstation platform. Kojima then goes on to unveil the establishment of his own studio and noting that the new studio’s first project will be in collaboration with Sony. The title is noted to be a new franchise and will have nothing to do with the Metal Gear or Silent Hills series’ as they are still properties of Konami.

A FAQ regarding the Sony/Kojima partnership was posted to Medium by SCE’s European Community Manager (which has since been taken down). A key point taken from that FAQ were that the Kojima Productions project was a timed PS4 exclusive and after the exlusivity period the game would appear on PC. No length on the period was given.

Sony also will not be investing in the new studio but will “support the title as necessary.”

Earlier Nikkei reported that Kojima was no longer and employee of Konami as of December 15th. Kojima later confirmed this on Twitter.

Currently the new Kojima Productions has launched a new website with a mission statement and job openings for those interested.
