The combination of genres is fairly common in games, especially when the elements being combined all serve a similar purpose to one another. In the case of the original Kitaria Fables, the game was able to combine elements of a standard action RPG that focus on the progression of the playable character, with farming elements that progress in a similar way. Now, the game’s sequel, Kitaria Fables 2, has been announced, and promises to bring all of the old mechanics back with a fresh coat of paint.
In order to signal the new game, the developer, Secret Level Studios, put out of an announcement trailer. It begins by introducing the peaceful setting of the Arkadera Peninsula, along with the two main characters. These are the heroes Alice Skylar, the royal army pathfinder, and Dust Tuftkin, the local guide, with new capabilities to set them apart from the original game. These two make use of Kitaria Fables 2′s coop feature, allowing two players to share a screen and traverse the world together. From there, the trailer delves into scenes of the main three features of the game, combat, farming, and crafting.
The game’s new Steam page clarifies a few details, such as the main characters’ mission to reopen Whitewall Town’s errand house. They will work alongside the Royal Academy Expedition Team, which will help them and give them side quests to complete while striving toward the main goal. Players are also encouraged to get to the know the neighbors, some of which can be seen talking to the main characters throughout the trailer. The game will also feature a skill system which will allow each character to unlock new spells.
The first Kitaria Fables was well received for the cozy gameplay and art style, which the sequel seems to have replicated with subtle improvements. The game is set to release on console and PC.
