The inexplicable remaster for Kingdoms of Amalur: Reckoning now has a new official release date. Going by the aptly named Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning, the title originally had a working date of August 18, but this was only seen on the leak from the Microsoft Store and was never truly confirmed by THQ Nordic. The new date is September 8, 2020, and will include all of the previously announced bells and whistles for the remaster. The company also announced a collectors edition for the game, and even more surprising, a brand new expansion that will be released sometime in 2021.

The expansion, dubbed Fatesworn, will be the first new piece of content that the of Kingdoms of Amalur series has received since 2012. The game is already filled to the brim with mains quests, side quests, side objectives, and other expansions that were included within the title’s first year. Unfortunately, that was all we got in terms of post-game content as the developers, 38 Studios, declared bankruptcy as a result of Curt Schilling’s business dealings that consequently lead up to their demise in one of the most controversial incidents in video game industry. THQ Nordic is keeping quiet on the new expansion for the time being, but hopefully, we hear more about it soon.
As of this wasn’t enough, THQ Nordic also announced a physical collectors edition of the game, and it might be one of the nicest editions of the year. The Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning Collectors Edition comes with the main game, the soundtrack, an Amalur keychain, 5 Artwork Cards, a beautiful Alyn Shir collectible statue, and a giant collectors box complete with the game’s art on all sides. In addition, if you order either this version or the Fates Edition, you’ll gain access to the Fatesworn expansion when it launches. This is quite the package for a remastered game, and it clearly shows just how much THQ Nordic believes in the IP. Both the Collectors Edition and the Fates Edition will cost $55 and $110 respectively.
It’s not just the presentation that’s being refined, it’s the gameplay too. Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning’s mechanics are being reworked for this one, and will also include some new content besides the aforementioned Fatesworn. What this new content will be is anyone’s guess, but there’s no doubt it will more than likely make the game’s playtime even longer than before. Either way, we’re excited to see how this goes, and hopefully we see some actual gameplay of it very soon.
Kingdoms of Amalur: Re-Reckoning will officially launch on September 8 for the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. You can check out all of the editions for the game here. The new expansion, Fatesworn launches sometime in 2021.
