It’s something that PC players have been waiting to see for a long, long time. Announced by Square Enix, the fabled Kingdom Hearts franchise is at long last coming to the PC platform, and it will be exclusive to the Epic Games Store. The company will be releasing the titles as part of their packs, which is how they’ve been re-releasing them on other platforms in previous years. These sets are known as Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III and its DLC Re Mind, and the most recent addition, the rhythm game Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory. All of these packs will be arriving on March 30.
Each pack is available to pre-order right now on the Epic Games Store, and while we are all very excited about this release, there’s already bit of controversy over this. Normally it would be about the Epic Games Store itself, however this time it is not tied exclusively to the distributor. Both Square Enix and the platform are facing a backlash on the pricing for each pack, which will apparently cost $49.99, $59.99, $59.99, and $59.99 respectively. That means it will cost you roughly $230 if you want to own the entire Kingdom Hearts experience on PC. As of this writing, the prices have not changed on the pre-order page, but it will be interesting to see if either company responds to this situation.
Within each pack are several titles from the Kingdom Hearts series, which quite frankly is a lot to unpack as the story line has grown exponentially since the original releases all the way back in 2002. For those who don’t know, the plot revolves around three heroes from an island who team up with various Disney, as well as various other Square Enix characters, to battle enemies who want to either rule or destroy the universe. Each Kingdom Hearts game is known for its longevity, as the main story, and the side quests can keep you engaged for hours, and weeks on end.
As we’ve already mentioned, the franchise has primarily been with the Sony family console line, starting with the PlayStation 2, and going all the way to the current PlayStation 5 with backward compatibility. Square Enix also worked with Nintendo on making the series for their systems, mainly the Game Boy Advance, the Nintendo DS, and 3DS. When Kingdom Hearts III launched in 2019, it also released on the Xbox One, making it the first title in the series to launch for a Microsoft platform.
Kingdom Hearts HD 1.5 + 2.5 Remix, Kingdom Hearts HD 2.8 Final Chapter Prologue, Kingdom Hearts III+DLC Re Mind, and Kingdom Hearts Melody of Memory will all launch on March 30 for PC through the Epic Games Store.
