Tripwire interactive announced the release of their first-person horror horde shooter Killing Floor III. This is coming off the heels of of the March 7 delay citing the development team “ we’ve realized that we missed the mark” with issues in performance, interface, and weapon feel. Gematsu reports the games will launch on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, and PC on July 24.
Shared in a press release Tripwire Interactive creative director Bryan Wynia says “Since delaying the launch of Killing Floor III, we’ve dedicated the additional development time to responding to the community’s feedback, ensuring the next chapter in the much-loved cult action / horror franchise lives up to our shared vision,” and that “The support from our fans has been incredible, and with the new July 24 release date in sight, we’re thrilled to bring that vision to players not just at launch, but through the continued support of new features and content that is a hallmark of our studio.”
Killing Floor III is set in 2091, where a megacorporation, Horzine has developed an army of bio-engineered creatures known as Zeds. You’ll assume the role as a special forces member of Nightfall, humanity’s last resistance against the Zeds.
In Killing Floor III you can assemble a squad of up to six players with full cross-play across platforms. Weapons feature fully customizable mods and skills. Hot zones feature interactive environments such as turrets, fans and traps. The series gore system is maintained in the ‘M.E.A.T. system’ including realistic dismemberment of enemies and persistent blood effects.
Tripwire Interactive aims to revitalize Killing Floor by returning the series to its darker roots. All while emphasizing combat, providing deadlier Zeds, interactive maps and increasing mobility. Fan reception has been mixed, though with the release date finally confirmed optimism is growing. We’ll know if these additions have been worth the wait in over a little over a month.
