Kickstarter Roguelike RPG Tangledeep Coming to Nintendo Switch Next Year

Indie dev studio Impact Gameworks announced in press release today that their premiere title Tangledeep, which is currently in Early Access on Steam, will be coming to the Nintendo Switch in “early 2018”.  The announcement comes alongside the reveal of a major update to the still-developing game, which adds a host of new features and functionality to the game’s monster-breeding system.

Tangledeep is a roguelike, 16-bit, turn-based dungeon-crawler RPG, which was launched into early access just a few months ago after the successful completion of a Kickstarter campaign earlier in the year.  Tangledeep is hailed by its creators as a “tribute to the golden age of RPGs” – referring to the heyday of games like Chrono Trigger and Secret of Mana for the SNES console in the late 1990s – which is evidenced by the game’s retro art style and soundtrack.

In Tangledeep, players must fight their way through a procedurally-generated labyrinth of diverse monsters and hazards, wielding unique items and strengthening up their character to emerge victorious on the other side.  As a true roguelike experience, players will be faced with permadeath and a new map layout for every playthrough, encouraging replayability and a thorough exploration of the game’s deep and robust character job system.

Today’s update to Tangledeep adds the Monster Corral, where players can keep all of the monsters they’ve captured from various locations within the deep.  Each monster has its own unique strengths and abilities, and will interact differently depending on what other specific monsters are sharing its living space in the Corral.  These monsters can be raised and trained by the player, and then brought along on journeys into the forest to help the player fight enemies.  The monsters can also be bred with one another in the Corral to hatch new monsters, which retain some of the traits and stats of both parents, encouraging loads of Pokemon-style breed-cycling to produce the ultimate monster partner.

Tangledeep is on available on Steam Early Access now.
