Junji Ito-inspired Game World of Horror Releasing Next Year

The eerie horror game World of Horror, also known as Kyofu no Sekai, has received a publisher and a release date. Gamers will be able to experience the terror sometime next year on Steam, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch.

World of Horror is an upcoming video game primarily inspired by the works of Japanese horror writer Junji Ito, who is known for works like UzumakiGyo, and The Enigma at Amigara Fault. This game features a haunting chiptune soundtrack and an old 1-bit art style. The game’s official website describes the game as follows:

The Old Gods are reawakening, clawing their way back into a world that’s spiraling into a mysterious madness. In a small, seaside town of Japan, the population’s sanity is dwindling and otherworldly, grotesque creatures terrorize those who call the place home. It’s the end of the world and the only solution is to confront the terror reigning over the apocalypse. Navigate this hellish, roguelite reality through turn-based combat and unforgiving choices. Experiment with the events of a playthrough by building a deck of event cards to discover different outcomes for your battles against the darkness. Different decks may even unlock new mysteries or clues. WORLD OF HORROR features branching stories with five playable characters to brave the chaos, each with their own story and a different perspective on the events that unfold. Unravel puzzles and mysteries through spells that sacrifice sanity. Uncover disturbing and shocking clues. Diligently search every nook and cranny, scouring for helpful items that may come in handy in another twisted encounter.

In a recent Tweet, Ysbryd Games announced that they would be publishing the game made by creator Panstasz. The game is set to release sometime in 2019, and will be released on Steam, PlayStation 4, and the Nintendo Switch. You can follow the game on the creator’s Twitter, Discord server, or official website, where you can find a link to an old demo.
