Jumanji: The Video Game, Based on the Video Game in Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle, Arriving in November 2019

The 1995 hit movie Jumanji, which was based off a book of the same name, has been deemed one of the classics for family films (and haunting the dreams of kids alike). So it came as a bit of a shock that the familiar tale of a mystical board game coming to life would be getting a sequel 12 years after its release. However, given the story had moved to modern times, so did the board game. The plot of it was relatively simple, just add a dash of mystical video games and Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, and you’ve got yourself an interesting premise of a movie. But… does the premise of a game that sucks people into it make a good premise for an actual game?

Well, Bandai Namco believes there’s an adventure waiting beyond the screen in the video game adaption of Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle:

There’s not much to go off from the teaser trailer, as all it shows is the likeness of the 4 main characters of the Jumanji game in Jumanji (oh boy this will get confusing fast). These character being Smolder Bravestone, Professor Sheldon “Shelly” Oberon, Franklin “Mouse” Finbar, and Ruby Roundhouse. Each of these characters will be playable as the game recommends that you unite with three friends to play the game. So this will be a 4-player co-op game, in which each player takes on a specific role.

There isn’t anything stated on whether or not the character roles will have an effect on how each character plays, with each having a unique set of skills like they do in the 2017 film, or if this is going to be the same game mechanics for each character with a different personality for each one. However, players will have to band together to get through the game by collecting the jewel of Jumanji, traverse through all sorts of terrain to solve all sorts of puzzles, all the while dodging marauders and exotic creatures.

Jumanji: The Video Game is set to come out November 15, 2019 for PC, PS4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch.
