It’s been a busy weekend for fighting games and DLC characters. First it was Soulcalibur VI with Amy, and now Tekken 7 joins the fight. Since its release in 2017, Bandai Namco has introduced several DLC characters for Tekken 7, most of which were characters that had shown up prior to the seventh installment. This is the case for the first character in the trailer, Julia Chang, who was first introduced in Tekken 3 and has since made appearances in later installments. She has now been officially announced in Tekken 7:
Julia is the daughter of another character, Michelle Chang, which is why she shares the same Baji Quan Chinese fighting style. Though with Julia arriving, there is the question on whether or not her alter-ego Jaycee (an American Wrestling style fighting character) will arrive either in the near future or as a just a cosmetic homage to Tekken Tag Tournament 2.
The second character introduced comes as more of a surprise, and that is Negan from the hit AMC TV series The Walking Dead. With that is Jeffrey Dean Morgan reprising his role as the voice of Negan, including having lines from the show (ie: “I hope you got your shittin’ pants on.”) And of course, his fighting style is exactly what would be expected of him: really violent and with his iconic barbed wire covered baseball bat. Negan also comes with the occasional slide of a blade that he’s got hidden for a secondary weapon. The trailer ends with Negan approaching the developers, calling them out on their 1 character at a time DLC, and confirming that he’ll be in the next update.
Negan and Julia Chang will be available in the next update on February 28, 2019 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Julia will be available for $5.99 USD, and Negan will be available for $7.99 USD.
