Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe Revivals Remain in Development

SEGA’s plans to revive several of its classic franchises remain active, with new installments of Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe still listed among the company’s upcoming projects. However, despite the continued presence of these games in SEGA’s release planning, the publisher has yet to provide firm release dates or final titles for any of the three. The projects were originally announced on December 8, 2023, when SEGA revealed plans to bring back five recognizable franchises: Crazy Taxi, Golden Axe, Jet Set Radio, Shinobi, and Streets of Rage. The announcement followed a teaser trailer shown at The Game Awards 2023. Since then, Shinobi: Art of Vengeance has been released, while the other four projects have remained in development.

SEGA’s November 6, 2026, Q2 FY2027/3 results presentation continues to list Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe among its upcoming games. All three are marked with their final titles and release dates still to be determined. Their continued inclusion provides fresh indication that SEGA has not abandoned the projects, although the company has offered little new information about their development. The franchises represent three distinct parts of SEGA’s history. Jet Set Radio is known for its graffiti-covered, cel-shaded depiction of Tokyo and its emphasis on skating and counterculture. SEGA previously described the new project in terms of an open-world Tokyo street setting and a rebellion-themed movement. Streets of Rage, meanwhile, returns to a series built around side-scrolling beat-’em-up combat, while Golden Axe draws on fantasy action, magic, and medieval adventure. These descriptions provide context for the revivals, but should not be mistaken for complete descriptions of the new games.

The fourth unreleased project from SEGA’s original announcement, Crazy Taxi, has received considerably more attention. Now officially titled Crazy Taxi: World Tour, the new entry is scheduled to arrive in 2027. SEGA has confirmed story following series protagonist Axel as he travels the world running his taxi business, alongside the franchise’s first online multiplayer mode. The game is planned for Xbox Series X|S, Xbox on PC, Steam, PlayStation 5, and Nintendo Switch 2. The continued development of these projects is also notable given SEGA’s cancellation of its broader Super Game initiative earlier in 2026. SEGA subsequently confirmed that the cancellation would not affect its separately announced franchise revivals.

For now, Crazy Taxi: World Tour is the only one of the four unreleased projects with a confirmed release year and a substantial public overview. Fans of Jet Set Radio, Streets of Rage, and Golden Axe are still waiting for more concrete details. Their continued appearance on SEGA’s upcoming-games schedule is encouraging, but the publisher has yet to establish when these dormant franchises will return.
