Pera Coda, the isometric mystery adventure game has received an announcement trailer from it’s developer Elyzio and subsidiary Falan. Gematsu reports that the title will be available for PC, unspecified consoles and that a release date has not been yet announced.
Pera Coda takes place in a surreal reimagining of Istanbul, Turkey; Its primary focus is on the twisting streets of Istanbul’s historic Pera neighborhood. Players will assume the role of an Attorney named Deniz, who is trapped in a subconscious state between life and death, and plays the role of judge and defendant in a sort of reckoning over his own soul.
Elyzio art director Ahmet Kazanci had this to say about the title in their press release “This is both a love letter to our city and a universal human story about guilt, regret, and the search for peace,” and that “[Pera Coda is] rooted in a surreal reimagining of Istanbul, real locations, rich with local nuance and emotional texture that are rarely seen in games. Istanbul becomes both a stage and a mirror, where East meets West, chaos meets calm, and each district reflects a piece of your fragmented self.”
In Pera Coda, players will navigate through a purgatorial loop reflecting on Deniz’s psyche and seek emotional breakthroughs to progress. The title also features branching dialogue options that shape Deniz’s understanding. Environmental puzzles are featured as emotional triggers that advance the story. Pera Coda features real world locations blended with dreamscapes. Point-and-click mechanics are a main feature.
Developers Elyzio and Falan aim to create a passionate project for their home city and a narrative with rich emotional depth. Elyzio and Falan have called on other game influences to get player’s excited, with the likes of Disco Elysium and Outer Wilds. With all seen so far, the hope is we’ll get some release date news sometime soon.
