Developer ustwo Games have announced that they will be releasing their indie puzzle sequel Monument Valley III this summer on PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC. Gematsu reports that Monument Valley III originally released on iOS and Android devices via Netflix’s gaming platform, Netflix Games on December 10, 2024.
Monument Valley III takes place in a world of shifting architecture. Players will assume the role of Noor, a new protagonist and apprentice to a mysterious lighthouse keeper; She is tasked with rescuing the world from the encroaching darkness by collecting light as a source to restore the Sacred Light and protect her home from the rising tides. You’ll sail between geometry and manipulate architecture to reveal new paths.
Design Week interviewed Monument Valley III’s lead artist Lili Ibrahim and asked about how the team viewed continuing the series versus pushing it forward, Ibrahim responded “…People love Monument Valley, in my opinion, because of the visuals, because it’s so striking, and the design is so elegant, and when those intertwine, it becomes this beautiful, juicy experience. So you don’t want to lose what people love. I really did pull and push in different directions and then try to put things in front of people to see what resonated.”
In Monument Valley III you have the ability to rotate and manipulate the environment allowing you to solve its puzzles. Modern designs contained within Monument Valley III are handcrafted and based in global architecture. The development team, in the Gematsu report has promised for there to be additional updates following the game’s console release.
Ustwo has successfully drawn in a broad audience with Monument Valley’s launch on Netflix Gaming. With the series’s approach to simplistic design it is easy to see how non-gamers would also find themselves enamored with it. Having this latest release reach another audience of players may be the next best move from ustwo.
