Founded in 2014 by James Martin, a new indie developer studio, Crackdown Games, is making their first mark for their debut title, Shallow Space, a 3D RTS game. Since it’s time on Steam Greenlight, it only took just six days, to get greenlit. The game is inspired by classic RTS titles like ‘Nexus: The Jupiter Incident’ and ‘Homeworld.’
Launch into space, as you take command of varied gamma fleets of the Terran Confederate Navy and dominate sectors of space, follow a storyline mission and encounter random resources, enemies, and more in this fully 3D universe. Players will have duties that might be policing and escorting, or harvesting the resources in order to advance your fleet or to create smaller ships for missions to face the random encounters. ‘The dynamic gameplay of Shallow Space gives players the freedom to direct their own authentic space adventure on multiple fronts.’
Earlier this year Shallow Space went to IndieDB to make its debut and quickly received a dedicated following. The updates and early gameplay footage gave the following something to look forward to, which gave the game a rank 6th in the IndieDB Top 100 Most Popular Games chart. That following not only helped in rank, but when Shallow Space registered to be in the Steam Greenlight program in June, the game was aprroved and ‘Greenlit’ in just six days.
An amazing new pre-alpha demo shown below, shows off the dynamic space-based assault, which gives Sci-Fi fans even more imagination in this game. Crackdown Games founder James Martin is ramping up development in order to launch the alpha version.
“I’m blown away by the reaction to the Shallow Space concept and footage”, says James Martin. “It’s awesome to see so many gamers sharing our vision for a great sci-fi RTS after months of work. 16 million gamers use Steam (myself included) and I’m very proud to join the title’s on there.”

Shallow Space is said to be powered by the Unity 3D engine and there will be upgrades to come, which have already be planned for, including models and particle effects seen in the pre-alpha footage above. A thrilling back story is currently being created by emerging author John Harper, whose recent success was with his officially licensed Elite: Dangerous novel, ‘Elite: And Here The Wheel.’
