The year’s later months are approaching, creating the perfect environment to stay inside and play a warm, friendly adventure. ILA: A Frosty Glide is a tranquil game developed by Magic Rain Studios and published by First Break Labs that allows players to fly on brooms like skateboards. While that premise sounds high stakes at first, the presentation of the game provides for a much slower and more calming experience. With the game releasing today, gamers looking forward to the launch will have a chance to experience the witch’s peaceful adventure for themselves.

ILA: A Frosty Glide is a game about its title character, ILA, looking for her missing cat, Coco. The search takes her all across an island on an open world adventure full of exploration. This exploration is facilitated by the game’s most advertised mechanic, the Skatebroom. The device does exactly what it sounds like it should, allows players to fly wherever they want in search of their missing pet and hidden treasures. In between using the broom, ILA will also tackle small platforming and puzzle challenges to keep players occupied with new experiences. The game also offers the ability to customize ILA’s look and broom, offering a reason to search for secrets that will stick with players for the whole journey.

In the release trailer of the game, the art style and gameplay are shown off in greater detail. To start, ILA is seen wondering where her cat is in a 2D animated cutscene reminiscent of childhood cartoons. As the gameplay starts, the world is shown off as a highly stylized landscape full of color and constant falling snow. From atop her Skatebroom, ILA is able to see across massive distances to make for good moments to stop and appreciate the view.

While dramatic games and plots are of interest to many players, others find joy in a calming story with a fun mechanic. For them, ILA: A Frosty Glide could be exactly what they are looking for. The game is available now on consoles and PC.

Alexander Jordan: I'm an English Major with a passion for video games. I like games that challenge me or make me think in ways that I wasn't prepared to. My favorite genres are platformers and strategy games.
