Huge Gaming News Twitter Account Nibel Announces His Departure

Social media has become the haven of anything gaming news related. With so many social media accounts used by mainstream and indie developers, it is nearly impossible for the average user to keep up with the latest developments. It’s no surprise that people within the community would step up to ease the access to the latest gaming news and announcements.

Nibel (@Nibellion) has been a popular source for video game news on Twitter since 2015.  With over 440,000 followers from gaming fans and industry professionals alike, Nibel secured himself a spot within the game journalism industry from his passion alone. So it was a shock to many when he announced that he would be leaving Twitter earlier today. In his farewell tweet, Nibel was rather vague about the reason for leaving behind his account, but in his official Patreon post, he went into greater detail.

Nibel (@Nibellion) has been popular source of video game news on Twitter since 2015.  With over 440,000 followers from gaming fans and industry professionals alike, Nibel secured himself a spot within the game journalism industry from his passion alone. So it was a shock to many when he announced that he would be leaving Twitter earlier today. Nibel’s initial farewell tweet was rather vague on his reasoning for leaving behind his game coverage, luckily he went into further detail in a post on his official Patreon.

“Today, I will move on from both Twitter and Patreon. There won’t be any games coverage from me on either platform.” said Nibel.“…Unfortunately, I was not able to create an interesting and sustainable Patreon which is evident in the number of Patrons stagnating during the first weekend and the first (of many) pledges being deleted during the first week. I have miscalculated the value of my Twitter activity and realize that it is nothing worth supporting by itself for the vast majority of people. It is not me who is popular, but it is that work that is useful. It is not valuable by itself, but a comfortable timesaver, and I get that now.”

Nibel also noted his problems with Twitter as a platform as another reason for him leaving. Nibel has had problems with getting his account authorized due to impersonating accounts, but he’s also been vocal about his lack of faith in Twitter’s leadership, especially with Elon Musk’s acquisition of the social media site.

“…I don’t think that Twitter has yet experienced good leadership, and this trend will not change with Musk either. I do not trust the platform,” said Nibel. “I do not trust Musk and his seemingly infinite immaturity. I do not think Twitter will fall apart instantly but that it could die a slow death. Why waste more time?”

Nibel brought a level of convenience for many within the video game community, and now that he is gone, that void is in desperate need to be filled.
