Twitch streamer Charles “MoistCr1TiKaL” White is well known in the Smash Bros community as an avid supporter of the game. During quarantine, he hosted several Smash events, most notable being the Soaked Series invitational, which stands as one of the largest online Smash Bros tournaments. In each tournament Cr1TiKaL hosted, singular player showed up on the leaderboard time and time again. This player was Kola, formally known as Salt One, who happens to be not only the best Roy player in the world but also one of the two best Cloud players in the world. The player made such an impression on Cr1TiKaL that, when he went to him asking for support for his Smash Ultimate Summit campaign, the streamer was quick to pitch his new Esports team to him. Kola accepted and thus Moist Esports was created.

Following a tweet announcing his team, Cr1TiKaL uploaded a YouTube video detailing how the team came to be and how it would operate. Unlike other Esports teams, which often take a cut out of a player’s profits in exchange for opportunity, Cr1TiKaL was quick to state that Moist Esports would allow their players to keep their full profits. What makes this so intriguing is that Moist Esports could, in the future, providing viable competition for Esport team giants such as Cloud9 and Team Liquid. By allowing their players to keep their profits while still providing them as much opportunity as possible, Moist Esports is likely to become more and more appealing for competitive Smash players. If Moist Esports were to expand to other games in the competitive scene, such as League of Legends or Valorant, it is likely that they could become one of the next Esport giants themselves.
Most recently the team has taken on a new player, Aaron, one of the best Diddy Kong players in the world. Both Aaron and Kola competed in last weekend’s Smash Ultimate Summit, both placing 7th out of 16 entrants in singles. This has placed Moist Esports 2-1 in wins and losses. Pretty impressive for a team not even a month old!
