In an exciting surprise announcement today, developer Milestone has announced Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged. A direct sequel to 2021’s Hot Wheels Unleashed, the racer has players realize their childhood dreams of driving the iconic matchbox cars in fast-paced races across mind bending tracks with tricks and stunts that Hot Wheels is iconic for.
Today’s announcement came with a CGI trailer and a swath of information directly from the announcement website regarding the upcoming sequel. Turbocharged will retain the iconic orange tracks with 5 brand-new environments. There’ll also be new terrains, as the trailer teased off-roading in rougher environments like a grassy backyard. The announcement also teased a mini-golf Wild West-inspired environment for players to race and build their tracks in.
Turbocharged will also feature brand new skillsets for racers to find advantage over their opponents. There’ll be a Lateral Dash and both a Single and Double Jump, both can be used to avoid other racers, obstacles or knock players off the track.
When Hot Wheels Unleashed first released in 2021 it received some criticism for lacking variety in race modes. Turbocharged seeks to amend what Unleashed lacked, with different game modes such as Elimination, Grab the Gears, Demo Derby, Drift Master, Waypoints and more. Some of the game modes will exclusively be online such as Grab the Gears and Demo Derby.
The Livery Editor will also be making a comeback with updated functionality such as customizable designs for each Hot Wheel, along with a Sticker Editor. The Track Editor will also be seeing a massive update in improvement to UI, ease of use and more ways players can create some unique and insane tracks.
The game will launch will well over 130 vehicles, along with motorcycles and ATVs which were previously unavailable in Hot Wheels Unleashed. Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged will come to digital and physical storefronts, with the digital offering 2 additional editions. There’s the Standard Edition featuring the full game along with a pre-order bonus. The Deluxe Edition adds a Season Pass VL.1, Run and Fast Pack, and Unstoppables Pack. Legendary Edition includes all previous edition exclusives along with a Season Pass VL.2, and two extra Hot Wheel packs Speed Kings Pack, and Just a Scratch Pack.
Hot Wheels Unleashed 2: Turbocharged is set for release on October 19th, 2023, on PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, PC, and Nintendo Switch.
