Dynamic Pixels and Tinybuild’s Hello Neighbor gets two new trailers ahead of its official release this week. The unique horror and suspense filled title initially had multiple beta versions released earlier in the year for players to test out a number of the game’s key features.
Hello Neighbor plays into the curiosities of anyone who might have a secretive or suspicious neighbor; players become the curious and somewhat mischievous child who decides to break into their neighbor’s home and investigate to see what he has to hide. Unfortunately, the neighbor isn’t too fond of visitors and takes the initiative to catch intruders before his house’s secrets are revealed, going as far as jumping through windows and quickly chasing after anyone he sees in his yard. What’s more, the game has unique AI system that allows the neighbor to learn player’s methods as they continue to get caught while exploring the house; if the player went through the back door on one playthrough then that door may be locked the next time, windows will continue to be boarded up and the neighbor will predict more potential escape routes.
Some locked doors are meant to be opened however, as seen in Hello Neighbor’s basement trailer; the player reaches a dead end at a door sealed up with three different colored locks in the neighbor’s basement. Even though there have been versions of the basement level tested in beta stages, fans have noticed differences in the method to get to the basement and access its contents. This has led some YouTube commenters to believe the final version could be different from anything they’ve seen thus far.
Secret locked doors and clutter aside, the house may seem relatively normal in construction at first but the game also has a supernatural component that reveals the neighbor isn’t just a normal human. Players are able to access rooms that seem massive in size (much too large to fit in the house), and encounter the neighbor who at times appears giant in size and wipes away the house walls with a swing of his hand. Some of the items in the house seem to be alive as well, such as a horde of moving mannequins seen in an eerily lit and scarcely furnished room in the pre-launch trailer.
Hello Neighbor will be officially released December 8 on PC via Steam and Xbox One for $29.99. Those who bought early beta access of the game will be able to play the full version upon release with no extra cost.
