Hope for Disappointed S.T.A.L.K.E.R. Fans: “Survarium”

Looks familiar, right?

Survarium is an MMOFPS, set in the near-future following an apocalypse that wiped out 99% of the world’s population. And, of course, prominently mentioned on the game’s website are “anomalies and artifacts“, which should tingle the ears of any STALKER players and, indeed, that’s not a coincidence as Survarium might well be described as the STALKER MMO: developer Vostok Games was founded by former members of GSC Game World (the STALKER series’ developers).

GSC Game World was dissolved in 2011, taking with it plans to develop S.T.A.L.K.E.R. 2 . Vostok’s devs brought with them many of the ideas intended for that title, but gave the background a fresh coat of paint (even if the devastated world looks all too familiar).

Ooooh…

Survarium‘s apocalypse appears to be largely unexplained, but nature has gone “kablooey” (a Russian technical term) and now mankind’s cities are threatened by natural forces– wild animals and encroaching forests. Fighting trees seems like it wouldn’t be that exciting, so there is probably a lot more to it than that. Poison frogs, or something.

For players who have been missing the open world of the Chernobyl Exclusion Zone, the details are probably a lot less important, and Survarium may very well be the game they’ve been waiting for.

The Alpha is current accepting registrations. The game is expected to be released before the end of 2013.
