Developer Mihoyo have announced the 3.5 update to their free-to-play roleplaying game Honkai Star Rail. The update is titled “Before Their Deaths.” Gematsu reports that the update will launch on PlayStation 5, PC, iOS, and Android on August 13. 

The update is set in the Amphoreus storyline among two new maps, Styxia the City of Infinite Revelry and Ancient Okhema. Players will travel back a thousand years through the Eternal Recurrence to ancient Okhema.

Two new five-star characters are introduced, Hysilens and Cerydra. Hysyilens is a Physical-type Nihility character focused on damage-over-time. Hyslien’s Ultimate creates a Zone that triggers bonus DoT, damage over time, and lowers enemy ATK and DEF. Her abilities apply random DoT effects and increases damage taken by enemies. Cerydra is a Wind-type Harmony unit. She buffs allies with a status called “Military Merit,” which increases ATK and unlocks stronger effects over time, including Skill duplication and resist penetration. Cerydra’s Ultimate deals area damage and builds up Charge for ongoing support.

Version 3.5 includes a warp event, or limited-time banner featuring returning five-star characters Kafka and Silver Wolf. A new boss in Lygus is located in Styxia. Two limited-time events will go live during the patch including “Chrysos Maze Grand Restaurant,” where players manage a restaurant in Aedes Elysiae. “Old Brews & New Friends” brings back the drink-mixing minigame at Dreamjolt Hostelry. A voice toggle feature is being added letting players switch between the in-game dub and the original licensed voices.

Mihoyo may seek to keep the fanbase engaged while pushing past the mixed reception of update 3.0 Paean of Era Nova. With the new content on offer, Mihoyo has gone on to expand their existing storyline, brought two new characters, added maps and events. The team may have a successful launch later this month.
