The Remastered Editions will update the Homeworld games for modern systems with support for HD, UHD and 4K resolutions. Additionally, for the truly nostalgic, this re-release will come packaged with original editions of the games which will be compatible with today’s operating systems.

While Homeworld Remastered will be available on digital download platforms such as Steam, the Collector’s Edition will feature a number of physical elements in addition to digital download keys for both games. Most prominently will be a 13-inch tall statue of the Pride of Hiigara Mothership, which was polled to be the goodie of choice among fans, that will light up via USB power. Other bonuses include a revised Historical Briefings and Artwork book, which will contain unseen concept art by Rob Cunningham and Aaron Kambeitz, and finally, a die-cast Angel Moon Homeworld keychain.

The Collector’s Edition will be limited to a few thousand copies, according to an announcement by Gearbox at PAX East, so Homeworld fans looking to revisit the franchise in limited-edition glory should consider quickly.

Although the release date on the game’s Amazon page says December 31 2014, the official website has made it clear that that date is simply a placeholder, and an official one will be announced soon. Gearbox Software, who bought the Homeworld franchise from the now defunct THQ, has stated that it hopes to released the Remastered Editions this fall.

The Homeworld games were developed by Relic Entertainment, who are also responsible for Company of Heroes and the Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War series, and were well received, with reviewers praising the games’ impressive graphics, large-scale battles, compelling storylines and cinematic scores.
