Hollow Knight is Celebrating Halloween With a Free Expansion

Developer Team Cherry’s indie action-adventure Hollow Knight will be getting its second free expansion next week. The expansion, The Grimm Troupe, will be available as a free update for Steam and GOG players, while DRM-free players through Humble Bundle will get a download link for an updated version of the game. Team Cherry announced The Grimm Troupe‘s late October launch date yesterday on their blog.

The Grimm Troupe will add a major quest with new enemies and allies, and according to Team Cherry players can jump into The Grimm Troupe‘s quest “at any point in your Hollow Knight journey.” The developer’s reveal post drops a few pieces of information on the quest, reading, “Light the Nightmare Lantern and summon the Grimm Troupe to Hallownest, if you dare! Take part in a twisted ritual that stretches the breadth of the kingdom and bestows the player with a powerful new ally.” In addition, The Grimm Troupe will add four new charms which grant “unique new aids and abilities,” a couple of new boss fights which include “dark new foe and a twisted scarlet spectre,” and the ability to drop custom map markers on places of interest.

Hollow Knight is available now on PC, Linux, and Mac. The Grimm Troupe will be released on October 26th; you can watch the expansion’s reveal trailer below.

Glenn Carreau: Hi! I'm Glenn: recent college grad specializing in interactive arts and media, writer, game creator and connoisseur, pop culture junkie, and semi-professional fan-artist and blogger. In my free time, I function as an unnecessarily specific gaming encyclopedia. I also play the violin, binge crime/detective procedural shows (still not sure why), and do a large amount of digital painting. I'm probably too attached to Dragon Age, but not really inclined to do anything about it. I'm a huge fan of cosplay, foxes, the prose of Jenny Lawson, and Strong Female Characters™.
