The first major AAA title of 2021 has arrived as Hitman III has finally launched. Unfortunately, like most launch day titles, not everything is perfect right out of the gate. However, this time it’s not the game itself, but a specific website that IO Interactive has set up for those attempting to carry over their progression from the previous two Hitman titles into the third entry. According to the developer, they’re experiencing a serious amount of traffic on the site, as the servers are apparently unable to accommodate the overwhelming amount of players trying to access it.
For those unaware, IO Interactive set up this carryover site for those who wished to bring all of their progress from the previous entries into Hitman III. This site went live right as the game launched and was immediately flooded with players trying to access the service. Now it’s important to note that you absolutely do not have to use this site to play Hitman III, as it is essentially an external service that the developer is letting people access and not part of the game itself. However, due to the process of bringing in all of the saved data/progress, which in turn wipes and removes any data already saved in the game prior, the site’s continuous crashing has prevented large amount of players from starting Hitman III.
Some of the bigger issues present include creating accounts for the site, linking their Steam and Epic Games Store accounts, waiting for a confirmation email once the transfer is complete, and other minor tidbits. Clearly, this was meant to absolve the potentially arduous task of bringing the Hitman 2 maps from Steam to the Epic Games Store, due to Hitman III’s one year timed exclusive on the platform. There was some concern that the studio would have everyone buy the maps all over again in order to gain access to them, but they assured players that this would not be the case. As we can now see, it did not go as planned.
IO Interactive tweeted that they were working on fixing these issues as soon as possible, but with so many players trying to transfer all at once, this is easier said than done. Thankfully, the game is performing well with those who have been playing it, including reviewers and critics. Hopefully, more will be able to start the game once the carryover site stops crashing. Hitman III is available now for the PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, Nintendo Switch, and PC through the Epic Games Store and Google Stadia.
