The release date for Hitman Episode 5 has been announced. Episode 5 will be taking place in Colorado, USA and is set to be released September 27th on PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. The story mission for this new episode is called “Freedom Fighters.” This new mission revolves around Agent 47 breaking into a Colorado farm compound that has been turned into a training camp for a private militia. Agent 47 is tasked with assassinating 4 targets after breaking into this heavily guarded training facility. Hitman Episode 5 is adverting itself as one of the hardest missions they have ever constructed for Hitman. As Studio Head at Io-Interactive, Hannes Seifert put it, “This is one of the toughest episodes yet. Not only do you have four targets, but from the moment you set foot in Colorado you’re on enemy ground.”
The four targets are named Sean Rose, Maya Parvati, Ezra Berg, and Penelope Graves. Each of these targets holds a different set of skills, making each one a unique threat. These skills run the gamut from chemical interrogation to environmental terrorism. Episode 5 will also include 70 plus challenges to unlock more gear, weapons, and items for Agent 47 to use in the other Episodes, as well as this one. On top of all of this, for those who have been keeping up with the story, Episode 5 will have major story developments for Hitman, setting up the climax that the previous episodes have all been building towards. As Seifert puts it, Episode 5 will “Set up an intriguing season finale for players.”
Seeing as how Hitman is the first episodic AAA game, the results of this season could probably sway the direction in which the spread of this idea goes. The success of the episodic Hitman could lead to a trend of more AAA games taking this direction with releasing content. As everyone knows if something is successful it will be done to death. The idea of developers not rushing games to meet a release date is tantalizing but then again, not everyone can get behind what sort of feels like the next step in the natural progression of the microtransaction model. The scales seem about even at this point.
This season of Hitman has taken Agent 47 all over the world, to locations including: Paris, Sapienza, Marrakesh, Bangkok, and now Colorado. The season finale for Hitman will be released later this year, and does not have a set release date. The season finale for Hitman will take place in Japan.
