In an interview within this week’s issue of Dengeki Playstation, Hideo Kojima revealed new developments about his upcoming title, Death Stranding. Kojima stated that the development is progressing quicker than anyone at Sony Interactive Entertainment had expected, and alluded to a future announcement that would come as a shock to fans early next year. With Kojima’s usual degree of mystique regarding upcoming titles, the promise of an upcoming announcement and guarantee of a speedy developmental process provides a great deal of suspense.
This is the first new development fans have received since the trailer shown at The Game Awards earlier this month, which left viewers feeling more confused about the diegesis than before. All previews have included bizarre premises that have been purposefully unexplained, leaving the assumption that this new announcement will either be equally as ambivalent, or a first breakthrough.
This is the first game to be released by Kojima Productions following Kojima’s detachment from Konami, and has been presented cryptically since its announcement in 2016. Information regarding gameplay, release date, and overall premise is devoid at this moment. Though, due to the clarification of Sony Interactive Entertainment, fans know that the game will be released on PS4/PS4 Pro.
In the current stages of development, fans have time to patiently ruminate on the information currently available, and have already began various threads of theorizing. Fans can bring in the New Year expecting new information, and hope the development is coming as quickly as Kojima states.
