Blizzards MOBA giant, Heroes of the Storm, increases it’s already impressive roster with another World of Warcraft stalwart, Sally Whitemane, the High Inquisitor of the Scarlet Crusade. Blizzard began teasing a new hero last week with a cryptic tweet that only showed a large golden door, then another tweet with the same door slowly opening. Blizzard officially let the cat out of the bag and revealed Whitemane as it’s new hero.
In the story of World of Warcraft, Whitemane is a name that originally struck fear into the hearts of many. A fanatic devotee of the Scarlet Crusade, Whitemane essentially eliminated anyone who either stood in her way, or didn’t join the Crusade. Eventually, she was defeated by the Scourge, was ironically brought back as an undead during the expansion, Legion, and became one of the Four Horseman of the Ebon Blade, to fight the Burning Legion.
Whitemane is the newest ranged support hero to join the game, as her abilities give her a variety of ways to heal teammates and deal damage to enemies. Her basic abilities, for the most part, appear to stick to standard types that ranged players are used to. The highlight of her power stems from her Heroics, and both look to cause havoc across the battlefield. Her first one, Scarlett Aegis, heals all nearby allies for 250 points as well as granting them 40 armor for 4 seconds, this ability gives Whitemane a huge push as the ability to heal and give armor in one stroke is something we don’t normally see in this game. Her second one, Divine Reckoning, is a area-of-effect ability, where in the span of 4 seconds, Whitemane will deal 50 damage to any enemy in the area every 0.5 seconds. This is a great way to finish off opponents who are low on health, or set up a team squash.
Whitemane is the second hero from World of Warcraft to be added to the game this year, as Yrel was announced back in June. With the newest WOW expansion, Battle for Azeroth, releasing in just couple of weeks, and Blizzard changing the subscription model to WOW, it’s obvious that the company is making a huge push for their MMO, and it’s definitely working. Whitemane has no release date for Heroes of the Storm at this time, but expect her to be put into the Public Test Region (PTR) at some point.
