Heroes of the Storm 2.0 Enters Beta Today

Blizzard announced today their plans for Heroes of the Storm 2.0, a massive overhaul of their free-to-play title that will be bringing tons of changes to the game.

Heroes of the Storm 2.0 is available to beta test today in the Blizzard launcher.  The update brings a number of changes, including new player items, new in-game currencies, changes to the game’s UI, a new playable hero, and more.

Most of the major new changes in Heroes of the Storm 2.0 come in the game’s new progression system, which has been seriously reshaped.  All level caps in the game are now gone; the Player Level can increase limitlessly, and is equal to the sum of all Hero Levels that the player has gained, which are also now unlimited.  The rate at which XP is gained and levels increase has also been tweaked.

Heroes 2.0 also adds new loot chests, which come as rewards for player level ups.  The loot chests can contain various cosmetic items for heroes, as well as “shards”, a new forge item that can be used to forge specific items the player wants to add to their collection.

The new hero, Cassia, comes from the classic Blizzard game Diablo.  Cassia is an “Amazon Warmatron”, and plays as a highly-aggressive ranged with some impressive offensive skills, allowing her to rush in and deal quick damage to enemy characters.  As a trade-off, though, she is vulnerable to enemy abilities, and suffers with limited mobility and escape potential.

Other changes coming in Heroes of the Storm 2.0 include some balance changes for existing heroes, small fixes to battlegrounds, and new stickers, sprays, and announcer packs.

Heroes of the Storm 2.0 goes into beta today, March 29, with the full update scheduled to go live April 25.  You can check out the full patch notes for the update here.
