Independent studios have been dominating the Steam charts nonstop this year, and it’s no different for studio Unfrozen. In the course of 3 days of its early access, Heroes of Might and Magic: Olden Era, a turn-based strategy game, has officially sold over 500,000 copies in just three days, dominating the Steam charts alongside Diablo 4 and Windrose, another indie game. It also made all its money on development on the first day, sold over 250,000 copies, and had a 91% positive review on Steam. Heroes of Might is yet another big success for indie games and old-school strategy games.

Heroes of Magic and Might: Olden Era is a hex-based strategy game. It’s no secret that as the gaming industry continues to evolve, niche genre games tend to fall to the wayside and become lost in the sea of games. However, Unfrozen has just proved that there is still a market for old-school strategy games and that they can compete with big games such as Diablo 4 on Steam. Being able to sell over 500,000 copies in just 3 days is no easy feat, and with it being an indie studio, it makes this even crazier than it already is. Hooded Horse and Ubisoft may have published it. But a passionate indie team created this game, and it shows: players have been nonstop praising it, and it has received nothing but positive reviews on Steam and is topping the best-sellers charts.
The team behind the game had this to say to players about the achievements: “These numbers are beyond our wildest dreams! We will continue to work tirelessly to prove that your faith in us is warranted and to ensure the legacy of this beloved series remains proud and alive. Thank you for your support and patience! May your morale be ever high!”
As mentioned before, it’s always good when games succeed, as multiple people put their blood, sweat, and tears into them for players all over to enjoy, and seeing them succeed is always great. And it’s always important for these studios to recoup their development costs to keep making great games and keeping the lights on. It’s fantastic that Unfrozen made it all back in 1 day of the game’s release. All around, this is nothing but a big win for Unfrozen and hex-based strategy games. The game itself is still in early access, but you can join in on Steam right now and experience this game for yourself.
