

2D, Handrawn Action RPG Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past has been announced on “All major platforms” with a confirmed 2026 release on PC according to publisher Red Dune Games and Dutch developer Blast Zero. Gematsu shares The game follows the 1990’s anime Samurai Pizza Cats.
Samurai Pizza Cats: Blast from the Past is set in Edoropolis, Little Tokyo. You will swap between the members of the anthropomorphic Samurai Pizza Cats, spend your time using the unique abilities of each character to help you solve puzzles and create combat combinations. Special attacks from the 90’s series are featured within the game and you’ll expand combat options by collecting special cards, equipping them and expanding those abilities.
Shared on Gematsu series lead actor Kappei Yamaguchi was interviewed about how it felt to return to his role after so long, Kappei Yamaguchi then had this to say “Yattarou alongside Ranma, is one of my foundational roles as a voice actor. When I first heard about the game, I was absolutely thrilled, and now that it has become a reality, I couldn’t be happier. I was especially surprised to learn that the game is being developed in the Netherlands! It felt amazing to say ‘Tenkamuteki no Daishōri!!’ (‘Unrivaled, ultimate victory!!’) again. I love Yattarou so much!”
Samurai Pizza Cats has returned after 30 some years with the show first airing in Japan February 1, 1990. Much of the original cast will reprise their roles in Japan as well as for the North American release. The work completed by developer Blast Zero thus far is being praised and the original aesthetic has been preserved. Children of the 90’s and rpgs may have a promising title to look forward to come next year. The positive here is that this wait will certainly be shorter than the last.
