Halo Studios has announced that Halo: Infinite will no longer be receiving major content updates. The announcement comes 4 years into Halo Studio’s 10 year plan for the title. While the studio will continue supporting the game, they plan to divert attention away from updating Halo: Infinite towards developing newer entries in the Halo franchise.
The announcement regarding Halo: Infinite’s future came in the form of a blog post. The post details the game’s upcoming “Operation: Infinite” update, which will be released on November 18th and serve as the game’s final major update. “Operation: Infinite” includes a 2x progression speed for climbing Career Ranks, a free and Premium Operation Pass, and multiple new armor sets.
Although Halo: Infinite will no longer receive major updates, Halo Studios claims they are “fully committed to supporting players with exciting challenges, ranked rewards, and community events throughout next year and beyond.” Said support includes rotating Daily and Weekly Challenges, periodically changing formats for Ranked Seasons, and several Halo themed in-person events.
The announcement came as a shock to fans, namely due to previous comments made by Halo Infinite Studio Head Chris Lee in a 2020 interview with IGN. In said interview, Lee describes Halo: Infinite as “the start of the next ten years for Halo” alongside desires for the game to “grow over time, versus going to those numbered titles and having all that segmentation that we had before.” Halo: Infinite was released in 2021, meaning that the game only received 4 years of support instead of the aspired 10.
Halo Studios, in lieu of Halo: Infinite updates, will now be focusing their attention on brand-new entries in the Halo franchise. Halo Studios says that “we’ll need our whole team’s combined focus to deliver new experiences with the same passion and care that our community has given us.” The “new experience” in question is the recently recently announced Halo: Campaign Evolved, which is slated for a 2026 release.
It’s unclear how long Halo Studios will continue to support Halo: Infinite, especially with the fast approaching release of Halo: Campaign Evolved. However, fans of the 2021 title will be able to continue enjoying the game for the time being.
