There is a big rumor going around the internet about Microsoft’s next entry within it’s iconic Halo series; Halo Infinite. The title was first reveal back at E3 2018, and has had a few rumors floating around regarding it since it’s announcement. One of which was the sequel being a launch title for the next generation Xbox. However, this claim was quickly debunked when Halo franchise director Frank O’Connor went to twitter to put the rumors to rest. Now, we have another rumor floating around about the new project.
According to the German website Xbox Dynasty, Halo: Infinite reportedly has a development budget of $500 million. If this holds any truth then this big budget would make it larger than both the budgets for Grand Theft Auto V and Red Dead Redemption II from Rockstar, a developer with a notable reputation for having big budgets for their projects.
Other big name titles such as Destiny and Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2, didn’t cost more than $300 million to be produced. In fact this reported figure alone would make the game the most expensive video game ever made. On top of that it is worth noting that this number doesn’t include any marketing costs for the title.
Although it does seem exciting to hear that Microsoft is putting such an investment into the next big entry into this beloved series, Xbox Dynasty has no official proof to confirm these rumors of the game’s budget. It’s being speculated that Halo Infinite might be an open world game, which typically have a large budget.
Another thing that could play a factor within the budget for the game is the creation of the new SlipSpace engine which will be the basis for the future of the series. If this is revealed to be true, then it looks like 343 Industries and Microsoft are certainly doing whatever they can to make sure that Halo: Infinite is one worthy of the high expectations that longtime fans have for it.
